Detroit Design 2067

Annual Week-long Immersion Program for High School Juniors and Seniors (2018-present)

Partner & Institution: Detroit 67 Project, Detroit Historical Museum

Class Size: 11 (2018), 10 (2019)

Objectives: Connect students with the History of Detroit via Design theory and Community Engagement

Activities:

  • Guided Discussions on design, historical perspectives, language, power and problem solving

  • Cultural Hackathon

ENGR 180: Minority Engineering Seminar

Semester-long course focused on professional and academic development of Engineering Freshmen (Fall 2017 and 2018)

Partner & Institution: Detroit 67 Project, Detroit Historical Museum

Objectives: Teach students basic human centered design principles and facilitate community engaged project.

Activating Inclusion

A day long event focused social problem solving and collaborative, cross-disciplinary work. (February 2019)

Partner & Institution: •Purdue Diversity Resource Office and Purdue Diversity and Inclusion

Objectives: Facilitate space for students to brainstorm solutions to issues related to social identities on campus and beyond using the design process
